WHO ARE YOU? | More than you can conceive

A BIRTHDAY REFLECTION

“Perception is controlled Hallucination” - Andy Clark

How we perceive ourselves isn’t the ultimate truth to who we are. It’s merely an idea that we have created for ourselves based on our biography; our experiences and feelings.

To understand who we are, we have to let go of all the ideas of who we have been; releasing the identity that we created in reference to our past; to assent to societal structures, to please ourselves and others. For we are, similar to the ocean, multifaceted, ever-changing in nature. The ‘you’ you are today, is not the same ‘you’ you will be tomorrow and the day after. The Self you think you know is merely one of many selfs, a controlled hallucination.

Instead of trying to confine ourselves to a one-dimensional identity, we can ask ourselves what our mission is. By posing this question over and over again, we may come closer to understanding who we are.

A MISSION OF LOVE

As I’m arriving in a new chapter in my book of life today, I have “failed” to make sense out of the contradictions within me, to fit into a certain category. Yet what seems more certain to me than ever is the mission that I remain committed to, the mission of love; of beauty, of compassion for those in pain, of softening the grip, of grace, of kindness, of reconciling, of mending, of truth and liberation. What is your mission?
